It gives me great pleasure to introduce this special edition of Annals of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the first ever journal issue that is dedicated to robotic thoracic surgery. I would like to thank all the contributors who have worked tirelessly to provide a comprehensive review of this field of innovative surgery. I believe that it will act as a seminal reference for years to come as it represents a truly authoritative body of work.
